Review Study Shows

Intracycle Velocity Variations

A review of 76 studies on intracycle variations of swimming velocity (IVV) was conducted . As shown in the graph, the IVV for freestyle and backstroke was about 10%. The IVV for butterfly was more than 20% and the IVV for breaststroke was usually more than 40%. The study shows that there is great potential to swim faster in butterfly and breaststoke by reducing the IVV.
