Designed for teens ages 13-to-15, the U CAN Teach course provides the skills and experience to become a certified swim instructor for children. This 20-hour blended course combines online learning, classroom discussions, and hands-on water training.

Over the span of several sessions, candidates get to:

  • Learn fundamentals of child development, safety protocols, and key instructional methods through digital lessons and in-person workshops
  • Observe certified teachers leading real-world swim classes encompassing various ages and abilities to see teaching in action
  • Assist those teachers directly in the water helping struggling students and facilitating activities
  • Get constructive feedback from veteran instructors on improving teaching abilities

The goal is developing confident, capable teen instructors ready to deliver intro swimming skills to kids, their peers and adults. By completing the course, learning its steps, understanding the drills and fine-tuning the skill demonstrations, teens quickly gain proficiency managing classes.

U CAN Teach offers a pathway to paid instructional roles, building leadership through aquatic education. It requires dedication, compassion, reliability and a passion for inspiring future swimmers. Upon passing competency assessments, graduates become certified U CAN Swim instructors.
