Egyptian Olympian Farida Osman (4th in the 50 meter butterfly at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships) joins her coach Sergio Lopez Miro (of Virginia Tech) and psychologists, Dr. Ina Harizanova and Dr. John Heil in a discussion of the link between mental health and swimming performance. The four member panel discussed initiatives, barriers, team culture, and covid. C
A review of 76 studies on intracycle variations of swimming velocity (IVV) was conducted . As shown in the graph, the IVV for freestyle and backstroke was about 10%. The IVV for butterfly was more than 20% and the IVV for breaststroke was usually more than 40%. The study shows that there is great potential to swim faster in butterfly and breaststoke by reducing the IVV.
The 14th BMS conference was hosted in Germany on September 6-9. The conference kick-off included virtual sessions on viral infections,swimmer’s shoulder, collaborative team support, talent scouting, flow simulation, and current technology.
